Alphen aan den Rijn, Zuid-Holland
The nearly 60 year old bird park is a home for more than 3000 birds. Many endangered bird species live there and an attempt was made to make their habitats as close as possible to those in the wild. Small buildings in their enclosures had nests on top of their roofs for example.
But the most spectacular displays are the well-kept birds. This park is considered to be first Bird Parks in the world. You can see there birds you may never have encountered before.
Those birds which cannot survive in a cold climate, have a small house inside their living areas. Many birds were free to fly away, but did not. They did, however fly from one side of a lake to another or to the small island in the middle of the lake (the pelicans).
The Bird Park and Adventure Playground are opened all year round from 9 a.m to 6 p.m.
