Heritage Chocolate Cake






Heritage Chocolate Cake

2/3 cup butter
1 3/4 cups sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups flour
1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
3/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 cups buttermilk

Preheat oven to 180C.

Beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in a lrge bowl until fluffy.

Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt.

Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk to butter mixture, beating just until smooth. Pour batter into prepared pans.

Bake for about 30 - 35 minutes. Cool completely before frosting.



Chocolate Fudge Frosting

1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup cocoa powder
2 2/3 cups icing sugar
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract

Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat; add cocoa, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat and leave it to cool.

Add sugar alternately with milk and vanilla, beating to spreading consistency.
