Koninginnedag

Koninginnedag the Wassenaarder-style

Every city in Holland celebrates BIG TIME for Queen's Day! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, will be decorated in the National Colour of orange.
And if you like a good bargain, then you are in luck! On Queen's Day all of the Netherlands will turn into a giant garage sale! This is the only day of the year where you are allowed to sell items freely on the street, as well as play music, do acts/plays or what ever else tickles your fancy.

In Wassenaar you'll have to get up early to find a good spot to sell or perform on the Langstraat. There is something to do for everyone, and make sure you wear orange.

Quote:

A car has crashed into a crowd watching a parade involving Dutch Queen Beatrix and her family, killing four people and seriously injuring several others.
The car careered into a monument after narrowly missing an open-topped bus carrying the royals.
No members of the royal family were hurt in the incident, in Apeldoorn, about 90km (56 miles) from Amsterdam.

Dutch officials said the driver, who was seriously hurt in the crash, appeared to have acted deliberately.
But after searching the car and his home, investigators ruled out terrorism as a motive.
They have not named the man, but said he was a Dutch national aged 38.

Floral Arrangement

The Dutch-Flemish flower arrangement style were based on baroque floral still life of arrangement seen through flower paintings by the great masters of that age, most famous was Ambrosius II Bosschaert (1573-1621).

These arrangements are well-proportion and quite compact. Traditionally it is arrange in a tall urn-shaped vase, usually about 1 1/2 the height of the vessel itself. Another distinguishing characteristic of the arrangement is the great variety of flowers within one bouquet.
It is thought that the artists of that period never actually arranged the flower bouquets or painted their pictures using an actually arrangements.
This explains why short-stemmed flowers are positioned high and flower from all seasons are placed side by side.
