Goddess of the Rainbow

The Iris is the ‘Fleur de Lys’ emblem of France.

Iris means rainbow in Greek, which is quite an apt name, as irises come in all sorts of colours, such as blue, purple, white, yellow, lilac and even brown.

Based on their color, iris conveys varied messages. Purple iris is symbolic of wisdom and compliments. Blue iris symbolizes faith and hope. Yellow iris symbolizes passion while white iris symbolizes purity.

"Since Iris is the Greek goddess for the Messenger of Love,
her sacred flower is considered the symbol of communication and messages.
Greek men would often plant an iris on the graves of their beloved women as a tribute to the goddess Iris,
whose duty it was to take the souls of women to the Elysian fields."
