MerdekaRaya

55 years of Independence.
A good excuse for us to throw a small-ish get-together.

A typical Malaysian hospitality - a gathering would not be a gathering unless there's a lot of food on the table. You find that people tend to gravitate around the food, which makes it the most important part of any social activity in Malaysia.
What I'm trying to say is food is very important to us! or maybe it's just me... who knows...

Well, anyways, back to our little gathering, we had a smorgasbord of food...

I finally conquered my fear of making Kek Lapis (Layer Cake)
I decided to start off by baking a simple no-frill Lapis Betawi but without the spices as the Family is not to fond of them spices in the cake.  Now, that starts me thinking - can the cake then be call Lapis Betawi if it's baked without the essential ingredient?!

Confident from my successful initial Kek Lapis attempt, I decided on this light Pandan Lapis (Pandan Layer Cake).
I'm quite happy with the result!

Missing all of you when we had the games during the party, brought back memories of the great times we had kat Copenhagen. It would have been great kalau you all ada sama, kan...

Selamat hari raya dan selamat menyambut Merdeka juga..

Congrats for having successfully baked both the lapis. Tumpang bangga (boleh ke? hehe). You cooked all those foods? Waaah...

Actually I was baffled to see the tart nenas in the form of apple bertangkaikan cengkih. I baru jer tulis something about the tart kat my blog the other day. I truly am terpesona tau..

Orang lain dah lama pandai buat kek lapis, saya baru nak belajaq... as they say, you're never too old to learn, kan :)
I had to do all the cooking and baking myself. Kat sini mana-la ada caterer masakan Malaysia, kalau ada pun mesti tersangat mahal.
Oh yes the tart nenas... as far as I can remember, my mother selalu buat dalam bentuk ni. Somehow dah jadi macam tradition in our family, kalau buat bentuk lain macam tak syok pulak :)

    1. Salam Salmi,
I was quite apprehensive juga bila nak buat. Kat sini harga telur tak semurah di Malaysia so kalau kek rosak, bengkok budget.
Bila dah menjadi rasa seronok pula... rasa nak buat all the time. Takut nanti bukan saja budget bengkok, my weighing scale pun bengkok juga :)

  6. The cupcake frosting, did you use gooseberry colour for it? Everything looks cantik dan sejuk mata memandang Muna.

I think I might have combined lime green with a little yellow. Me like playing with my colours :)
