A Simple Floral Arrangement

Need to re-vamp my silk flower arrangement into something suitably simple.

For this arrangement, I used

Ivy leaves for base

For the greenery -
Monstera leaves
Elderflower branches leaves and buds
Bamboo branches and leaves
ornamental grasses

The variety of flowers used -
light yellow Calla lilies
green Cymbidium orchids
russet orange Chrysanthemums

Brownie Point

First bake

Thought of putting off baking till later
but Elsa has other plans -
there will be a bake sale in school tomorrow for charity
I guess I just needed this as a kick-start to resume my baking duties

I had to cancel my initial plan to bake in the Aga, as the temperature was a bit low in the baking oven.
So I had to use the electric oven instead.
I must say I was a bit apprehensive with the "new"oven especially when it comes to baking cakes.
Nonetheless, the result was good
and Elsa shall have some bake goods to sell tomorrow!

Let me share my favourite brownie recipe...

All you need to do is
melt together 6 oz butter and 6 oz dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl.
In another bowl, sift together 3 oz flour with 2 oz cocoa and a pinch of salt.
Break 3 eggs into a large bowl and add in 9 oz of golden caster sugar, whisk until thick and creamy.
Pour the cooled chocolate mixture into the creamy egg making sure they're mixed in thoroughly
Gently fold in the flour followed by 4 oz of your choice of chocolate chips.
Bake for 25 minutes in 160C fan.

It has been a week and a day since we moved into this house.
The ground still remain covered in snow.
Makes me wonder... do we have grass?!

Coming up with a name for our home was not an easy task
we came up with a long list of names from various languages
but none actually works;
the name may sound good to us
but we had to keep in mind the locals may have a problem pronouncing it
Bad enough they to have to deal with our less than common names
(wait till they see my full name!!)

Some names had been shortlisted -
Elsa's "One Tree Hill" (for the lone Scots Pine in the middle of the field)
Mr D's "SevenOaks" (for reason known only to him)
and my choice was "MiddleMarch" (for obvious reason... like, we moved in mid-March, duh!)

In the end,
we settled on OAKENSHIELD
being ardent admirers of all things Tolkien
we felt this name suited us well

Aaah... moving is such hard work.
I shall now proceed to slumber...

The Move

It's been awhile since I last posted any updates in here.
To make up for the tardy posting, this will be a loooong update.
So, if you're in need to go to the little girl's room (or the little boy's),
do it now or forever hold your piss ;)

Rewind to Thursday, 14th March
The packers arrived early in the morning.
Two of them packers reminded me of the Chuckle Brothers
I had to restrain myself from saying "to me, to you" every time I handed them something to pack
I kinda doubt they would see the funny side of it

It took the men three days days to pack our stuff.
So to keep them going strong, I baked them this Bread and Butter Puds, made with anything and everything I could find in the kitchen cupboard.
I must say, it came out trumps... I work best under pressure.

Monday, 18th March
Last day of packing
the house was pretty empty in most parts
Felt a little sad but mostly excited to be moving to our own home.
The waiting was nearly over!!

We were greeted with a massive dump of snow-and-blizzard-condition weather.
It was as if the whole ground was white-washed for us to move in.
A clean slate.

A neighbour dropped by to welcome us to the community with a big bunch of flowers

Our forever family home.... *intense drum roll into the distance*
