Cherimoya Sorbet


An antidote for a cold day!




Also goes by the name of custard apple, annona, sugar apple - the fruit has soft white flesh and large, shiny black seeds.
Their skin and seeds are inedible, but their custard-like flesh is sweet and creamy. When fully ripe it is soft to the touch and the stem and attached core can be easily pulled out. The flesh may be scooped from the skin and eaten as is or served with a sprinkling of sugar. Often it is pressed through a sieve and added to milk shakes or made into fresh tasting juice.




Medicinal Uses of Custard Apple

Custard apple has many medicinal benefits. The paste of the flesh of custard apple is beneficial to treat boils, abscesses and ulcers. The dried crushed parts of custard apple are good in curing of diarrhoea and dysentery. Eating custard removes expectorants. The bark of the custard apple tree is used for herbal medicine because of containing of astringents and tannins. The bark of the tree is used in treatment of toothache too.

To make my Cherimoya Sorbet
Scoop out the soft flesh from 3 fruits. Press through a sieve to remove seeds.
Add some honey, single cream and juice from 1/2 lemon


Pour the mixture into an ice-cream maker


Let it churn for 1 hour for a soft set




Now it's ready to eat!
