A simple breakfast idea
for a lazy morning
all you need is a loaf of stale bread
Why stale bread, I hear you ask?
Simply because they soak the custard way better than fresh loaf!
Spread butter on both sides of each slice of bread
Arrange them neatly (or not) in an oven-proof dish
Scatter small knobs (haha! I said knobs!) of butter in between the slices of bread
you may add chopped vegetables or chopped bacon, sausages, chicken etc
pour custard into the dish
I made the custard using 2 large goose eggs - I would say about 5 large chicken eggs, 500ml milk, salt and black pepper
Let it soak for about 30 minutes - depending on how hungry you are
Top with some shredded cheese - I'm using a combination of Red Leicester and mature Cheddar
and some finely chopped herbs like thyme and dill
Bake in a 220C oven for 20 minutes
