Autumn Mood

It's that pumpkin time of the year again!

This is the time of the year where
out of doors activities are kept to the minimum.
Days are getting shorter and colder and wetter and windier
... need I say more
So all focus are now on getting the house cosy and warm
and bringing the outdoors in
with various arrangement of autumnal foliage of
fiery red and burnt orange leaves, pine cones and seasonal fruits

Hygge!

Tapai Pulut

Tapai Pulut
Tape
Jiu Niang
Khao Mahk
whichever name you choose to call it, they're all the same
they're basically Sweetened Fermented Glutinous Rice Pudding

This pudding is simply delicious, moreish
and to top it all, it's so darn easy to make
provided you have the patience of a saint
because it will be at least 2 days before you could savour this dessert

To make this, all you need is a yeast ball. So, yeah, I have 3... lucky me!
Each ball is approximately 6 grams
You will have to grind the ball into powder
- good old mortar and pestle will do the job

Sieve the powdered yeast over 1 kg of stone-cold steamed glutinous rice
making sure they are evenly distributed
Did I mention you have to steam the glutinous rice ahead of time... no? oops...

Transfer the rice mixture into a clean plastic containers with lids
Place it in a warm-ish room aka my boiler room for about 2 days

Once ready, I like to serve mine cold,
on its own or with cream whichever the moods take me

Autumnal Lunch - Sarawak Stylie

A gloriously beautiful autumn day
spent with my besties!

Since all of us have some sort of Borneo connection
- me, having to spend the best part of almost 15 years "stranded" on that island -
I decided to make Laksa Sarawak from scratch
A daunting task for many reasons -
One, I've never made Laksa Sarawak before in my life, not even with store-bought paste
preferring instead to sample the scrumptious plateful made by my kind and generous friends
or/and having them at various eateries in Sarawak - favourite being the one from the Boat Club in Piasau
Next reason - I'm feeding a bunch of Laksa Sarawak connoisseurs
What was I thinking!

Smiles!!! Approvals??!!
I'd like to think so...

We ended the day with a slice of Chocolate prune Cake

And here's to friendship....
Best friends don’t necessarily have to talk every day.
We don’t even need to talk for weeks.
But when we do, it’s like we never stopped talking.

Out and About - Babbacombe

A short break at an English seaside resort
of Babbacombe

Spectacular view of South Devon coastline

Oddicombe Beach

Landslip on April 2014 took with it a house
and a good chunk of its red earth and sandstone.
Fortunately, the collapsed house, in one of the most expensive areas of Torquay,
has been uninhabitable for some time.

Babbacombe Downs
The highest cliff top promenade in England
It is approximately 300 feet above sea level, overlooking Babbacombe Bay and Lyme Bay.
On a clear day, you will have visibility for about 30 miles of coastline.
